HEY! Big ups to everyone that came to Honeymoon for the superhero party. It was a great way to kick spring off. We’ll be announcing the costume winner after we get all the photos uploaded. City Pages own Tony Nelson was kind enough to take some shots. Check them out here.
If you haven’t heard, Honeymoon XXI is tomorrow. We have special guests Willy Joy and Shannon Blowtorch

In preparation for his arrival, Willy has given us a mix and a remix of his. The mix was originally made for Nicky Digital Here’s the rundown from the Nicky Digital Blog
Willy Joy on his mix:
Hey! Here’s my Pre Party Jamz mixtape, hope you guys enjoy it. For this mix I wanted to take a bunch of routines that I’ve been doing at my live shows recently and put them down on paper, so to speak. It starts off light and fun, moves to some bangers in the middle, and ends with a little sexy stuff. There’s some old classics, some “new classics”, some tracks made by my friends that I love, and some unreleased stuff to look out for in the future. Hopefully this will get you psyched about whatever music you’re getting ready to go see tonight! HOLLER!
Plus you get a hot remix by the man himself
Dev79 – In Ya Face (Willy Joy remix)

The shirt for this month is pretty bizarre. The guy from HULU made it:

Don’t forget to RSVP – we’ve fixed it this month so no worries: RSVP HERE
Also expect to hear a lot of this track tomorrow… what’s that sound?
Tiga – Shoes

There must be a hundred records with voice-overs asking, “What is house?” The answer is always some greeting card bullshit about “life, love, happiness….” … House is not universal. House is hyper-specific … The contexts from which the deep house sound emerged are forgotten: sexual and gender crises, transgendered sex work, black market hormones, drug and alcohol addiction, loneliness, racism, HIV, ACT-UP, Tompkins Square Park, police brutality, queer-bashing, underpayment, unemployment and censorship—all at 120 beats per minute.
DJ Sprinkle’s Midtown 120 Blues put out on Mule Musiq explores the deepest of the deep house. As the intro (excerpt above) implies, it’s kind of one of those fundemental, pallette cleansing releases. But I like it because I like bass and black women.

And this weird cover of Rod Stewart…
Hybrid Kids–D’Ya Think I’m Sexy

abe duque & blake baxter – what happened
amadou & mariam – ce ne pas bon (slightly twisted edit) [with added drums]
6th borough project – do it to the max
loudE – a nice woman
dennis edwards – don’t look any further (the revenge rework)
house of house – the rough half (don’t stop)
house of house – rushing to paradise (walking these streets)
curses – the deep end (holy ghost! remix)
phenomenal handclap band – 15 to 20 (extended disco mix)
Aquiline – Hot Blood
slo-motion sleaze disco with added dub

Hey thanks for being patient. I Just moved so I had some mad downtime with no internetz. Anyway here are the photos from BOMP 2.0. Click here to check them. Remember BOMP is a new monthly we are apart of every last FRIDAY at the Bedlam.

I’m going to play this track at BOMP on the 24th because it is an awesome track and it sounds like BOMP. Good enough reasons right?
Already that time of the month!

I was able to check out the Friendly Fires at their MPLS show this past Saturday (w/White Lies and The Soft Pack) All around it was a great show. White Lies did a great job and the Friendly Fires got everyone dancing fast. Here’s a video of their song Skeleton Boy one of my favorites off the album
Also our friend Drums of Death sent over some pics of his show with Afrika Bambaataa

He’s going to be touring with Peaches next month and who knows maybe he will make an appearance somewhere around here
