Ok, story time kids. I used to tape shit off the radio (KMOJ) after school and sometimes on weekends. Remember home taping? You don’t? Anyway, there was this mix show on KMOJ hosted by DJ Boogie. He played these really funny juke remixes of what was then current radio hip hop. So back then, it was shit like ‘No Scrubs’ and Master P songs. Anyway, I bought one of his mixtapes at Cheapo when I was in middle school and I thought I would post some of it up on here since Juke is enjoying somewhat of a resurfacing (see Juke Jams compilation). Enjoy!
A soundtrack to a movie that doesn’t exist yet, a movie cut from other movies, costumes of other costumes. That is the nature of Quiet Village. As their myspace page states, “The Album is complete.” CAPITAL A-lbum. Mancini, Morricone, Baxter, and J Dilla are ghosts pouring drinks all in this stuff. So, after the rave, after your nosebleed, after the glitter tights fall off, after your drunk hookup, after sinus infections and lost car keys, put this one on and drift away.
I may have missed it in the recent flood of bad American Boy remixes, but I can’t find a extended intro version of the song anywhere. So I solved that problem by making one myself.
Honestly, at this point, there isn’t a decent remix out there, so i’m going to keep playing the original.
So i wanted to celebrate the sabbath with some sweet remixes based around Black Sabbath. You all know who Black Sabbath is so I won’t bore you with an introduction.
First off is Bird Peterson’s mind blowing mash up Stuntin’ Like My Sabbath. Honestly people, I don’t know where he comes up with this stuff.
To round that off Drums of Death sent me an insane remix of War Pigs. If you don’t know, Drums of Death is doing amazing things over in the UK but more on him later.
Someone added me on myspace and they had the MIA song URAQT on their page. I completely forgot how good that song is. Not to mention the KW Griff song underneath it. So here you are!
There are some Big Dummy remixes floating around out there, but srsly fuck those remixes, this is where it’s at. This is going to be stuck in your head forever.
So Bird Peterson remixes and edits almost everything that he plays. It’s kind of insane, because I don’t see how anyone could find the time to do that. He also makes joke tracks and of course they are amazing.
The first time I heard this Bird was all like, “What do you think of this” it’s a remix that i made of this song
Holy jesus freaking lord of love. Symbol One is amaaaaaaazing! You’re all lyke “OMG HE’S SO BEHIND THE BLOG CURVE” Hey fuck you and listen to these tracks again! Sooo good!
Here’s a mash up that we threw together after finding inspiration at a show in Duluth. We took the instrumental version of Yeah Yeah by Bodyrox and put the pella for Low on top of it. So far i’ve found it to work really well. Use as you will.
A couple of weeks ago I was driving around in the car my brother and I share. And I was really sick of the radio so I looked around the car for a cd to pop in. And I found this blank one and put it in. In a matter of minutes, the windows were down (it was balmy) and the stereo was on blast; this little CD was DJ Benzi’s “Motivation”mixtape. Which brings me to this track. I’m not really into radio shit, mostly because 1. I don’t own a car to listen to it all the time, 2. the only way I do hear it is through this lady’s earphones on the bus (she is going to be deaf someday), and 3. I don’t live in the Souf or the suburbs no more and listening to this up here just doesn’t have the same charm. But, in a couple weeks, maybe I’ll hear this Wham! sample blaring out into the bus at 9am. For all other reasons why you’ll like this, please consult : Stuff White People Like/
Damn it feels good to be back in Minneapolis. The past two weeks have been crazy for us. We played a few parties down at SXSW including one with Moby, Ocelot, Ian O, and Preston Craig. Then we also played a party with Bird and Jose at The whiskey bar which was by far a highlight of the Austin trip. To be honest I wasn’t impressed with SXSW. I mean yeah there were parties everyday but there were sooooo many parties spread out none of them seemed CrAzY. I saw almost everyone I wanted to see.
Anyway after SXSW we took a road trip to Oklahoma to play two parties with Dance Robots Dance. The first party we played I got a little too drunk and fucked up pretty hard. I just remember trying to look at my computer screen and focus. Chitty’s girlfriend was buying me shots of tequila… so blame her. Right? That’s the kewl thing to do. Blame others!!! I just remember everything was blurry and I was trainwrecking really hard. People were still dancing though… that’s all that matters…?
(kids caught making out & fall out boy t-shirt)
The next night we played an ALL AGES party at this club called Opolis. This was a blast. It reminded me of Minneapolis because it was a dirty venue and it was really house party style. Setup on a table… people all around you and people there to get drunk and dance. I played a way better set than the night before and for kewl points I played WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS LOL. Now really that song was big last summer but allllll the kids danced like it was the hit of right now. It was also funny because you’d have 16 year olds dancing to it and 25 year olds dancing to it. Who wulllddda thunk it? THANKS JUSTICE AND SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO!!! Last years music big in 08?
So after that party we had to leave straight from the club so we could make it to the in-store at Robot Love and Honeymoon. Talk about a fucking trip…
Robot Love was fun. We were all super tired from the long drive but Dance Robots Dance played a fun set and how can you complain with free drinks!? Also sidenote: The new moongoons t-shirt is available for sale there now! Pick it up!
(Honeymoon VIII – White Trash – Dance Robots Dance, Trash Yourself, The Moon Goons)
Later that night was Honeymoon VIII with Dance Robots Dance, Trash Yourself, and Us. The night started out slow… I imagine so all the under 21′s could get CRUNKZXZ~##@ as FUXXXX but it filled up fast. There were some fucking ACE outfits too…
(Love this guy!!)
Finally people showed up… Dance Robots Dance started playing and before I knew it this was a fucking serious party. The most people we’ve had yet! I’ve got papers to prove it!!! Everyone was white trashed and trashed off alchohol. I remember one point in the night I was handing my bottle of bombay to the crowd and I was standing on top of the speakers. It was soooo insane. Trash Yourself started his set and that’s when things got real wild. People were bumping the needle on the record and spilling their drinks on the dj. I was so happy. We played our set and I played WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS again lmao. I couldn’t believe I played it but people were singing along and pumping their fists. I remember at one point in the night when I had my cloak on people were grabbing me. Somehow we managed to lose one of our records for our Scratch and so we were playing off of one record the whole time… fucking nuts. We ended the set with some banger tracks available for snaggin’ at the bottom of this post.
Seriously thanks to everyone who came out! Party photos available above where it says… umm… party photos!
(ME and B from Dance Robots Dance)
After Honeymoon we hit up Chicago with DRD and Trash Yourself. Bald Eagle asked us to play Life During Wartime. It was cool. Nothing could compare to Honeymoon from the night before really. The crowd was way tough. We had some good requests though. Can you play “Daft Punk, Miami Bass, and any 2-Live Crew?” Fuck yeah we can! After LDW we all went over to the Smart Bar were Bald Eagle works. Pretty kewl club. At about 5AM we all said our goodbyes and went home. Bald Eagle will be coming to play the 10th edition of Honeymoon. So watch out!
NOW SOME CHUNES!!!
Here are some tracks that basically highlight the past two weeks. Most all of them are old but they are damn good. BONUS. MOONGOONS MIXABLE EDIT OF DEY KNOW!!
Sweeping oceanic waves of golden sound crash against islands of illusion showering the darkness with dusty sparkles in a night with no stars.
And as you watch the light flicker off the particles, you think to yourself, Needy Girl just doesn’t reach this deep.
