Obviously I’m going to post stuff from him and his side projects all week. To start things off, I present to you the music video for one of my fav songs “Moustache Love” Here’s what NICKY DIGITAL has to say about it.
The upper lips in RCMP‘s new video have us in a tizzy!
The track itself is some solid disco with a few funky curve balls thrown in there to spice it up.
The Philly based group will be releasing their self-titled debut EP, which includes, ”Mustache Love,” digitally on the newly formed Young Robots Records on March 9th, 2010.
Now, if that’s Whitney fightin’ the bad guys i think RCMP just gave her crack ‘stache a whole new meaning….
Without further ado, here is the video
Also don’t forget to RSVP for BOMP so that you can get in for less.
I’m going to post up some sweet Bird Peterson stuff over the next few days. This is leading up to FOREVER YOUNG: Jersey Shore Edition this Friday. Here is Bird’s preview of all his new HOT JAMZ that are coming out this Spring. Maybe a few of them will make an appearance on our blog before them
I used to be on the Hollerboard all the time when I was in school (back when I DJ’d house parties in Raleigh, NC). One summer I needed some design work, something to keep me busy and I wanted to combine my interest in dance music with design so I made a post advertising my design skills on the Hollerboard. Curtis Vodka was the only one who hit me up. I ended up doing quite a few myspace profile pics, a record sleeve, and a bunch of mixtape covers for him in exchange for tracks and I guess the experience.
I lost track of Mr. Vodka for a couple years and just now got back in touch with him. I decided to ask him a few questions and requested a special mix for our blog. Enjoy!
What’s happening? Where have you been? What have you been up to recently?
I have been in a little rough spot for the past few months. Dealing with illness & family stuff.
I had to turn down a lot of remix offers and gigs. Pretty brutal overall, but things will get better.
You’ve kind of been one of those DJs/Producers that has adapted to the trends that have unfolded since this resurgence of dance music began a few years ago, how do you stay on top of what’s going on and keep moving forward?
Yeah, I usually like some of these shifts. It really has helped me in a lot of ways in, like, being from Alaska and the internet being my main base/source for the “outside world” and also helped me production wise in all number of fields. I don’t really like being labeled as some one who jumps on “the trend”, but I do admit that I like some of what has been happening. I enjoyed them while they “last”.
How has music changed since you started DJing? What do you like about it/hate about it?
I really don’t know. I am still young and I have been into DJing for almost 8 years. but I don’t have a background in knowing much of this change. I like doing what I am doing, though!
What have you been listening to lately (however relevant to this mix or not)?
Just a lot of Thrash/Black Metal, Techno, Classic/Deep House and some Jazz.
You made ambient music for awhile under the name Child Drinks Clouds? Do you still make music like that? How does that influence your production now?
That was a weird faze in my teenage life! School sucked, doing a lot of drugs, women sucked, everything sucked!
I don’t even know what I was doing really. I don’t think about it much anymore and I haven’t done anything under that name since.
What ever happened to Russian Baile?
I don’t know, the Russians disappeared!
You made us a first mix (which was good) and now have made us another mix, why did you decide to remake the mix?
I am digging the vibe way more!
Tell us a little about the tracks?
These tracks have a very Alaskan summer vibe, a very Twilight at 2pm vibe.
What’s up next for Curtis Vodka? Where are you going next?
Got some remixes coming out along with a 12inch for OTB Records.
I have been working on more originals, lately.

On Tuesday all the gooonz went out to the Katy Perry show at First Ave. I was djing in the entry that night as well, with Stereo Total and Leslie and the Lys. Overall it was a ton of fun. Katy Perry had a crazy stage set up and I was able to record the whole of Hot N Cold (on my new flip mino hd hollaaaa)
Right before this she did a version of the Hokey Pokey, but I accidentally deleted it (on my new flip mino hd holllaaa). I LOL’d when she put the mic in front of the speaker and the room was filled with piercing feedback. I actually think you can hear me laughing. In the Entry Stereo Total(MYSPACE) was awesome and Leslie and the Lys(MYSPACE) did exactly what we all expected.
NEWAYYYZZZ. What kind of blog post would this be without a relevant MP3, so here is a mash up that I made a while ago.
Wow so did you read about this on BBC yet? That’s fucking awesome! Imagine trying to go down there and being like “I come in peace” and then they just shoot you with an arrow and eat you. I wonder how they will approach the tribe? Crazy.
Anyway I’m bummed I couldn’t go see The Presets tonight at first ave so if you went I hope it was really awesome. Please tell me about it.
Then before I dig into an actual post I wanted to say Heavy Metal in Baghdad went off at the triple rock. Big ups to VICE for helping us do that and Triple Double for supplying the venue. Also Benny Benassi was wild last night. It was such a weird crowd but deff a fun one. Big ups to Sound In Motion for everything with that. Jonathan played four Justice tracks and I played three bmore remixes about girls (LOL). Pictures from both events will be up after our big party at Barfly tomorrow.
WHICH REMINDS ME! Please RSVP at RSVP@SOELECTRICPARTY.COM if you haven’t. Tomorrow will be a lot of fun. Finally a night where we can have all of our friends playing and partying instead of just a few.
So my post today… Little twist off of the ever so popular and ever so highly used High Powered Boys (Surkin & Bobmo) track – Get Down (DJ Ayres Party Edit) which is a mashup of Paul Johnson and High Powered Boys. I love these simple tracks. They are way too catchy and way too easy to mix in .
Next track is an older one by Thomas Bangalter. I’d love to throw this track in around the 2:20 mark. Simple and catchy, I’m going to try to play this tomorrow at So Electric. We’ll see. Enjoy it anyway.
In preparation of the Pool Party we are doing a fun in-store performance at Robot Love from 3-6PM. We have special guest GENERAL TSO playing some tracks as well as The Goons throwing it down. Free drinks, snacks, and maybe even a t-shirt giveaway if you do a sweet dance move. I also have some of my posters I did for ZUNE if anyone is interested. Seriously come hang out and chillax. Read some dope magazines, check out the designer toys, and other clothes going down. Always a good time at Robot Love. Click here for directions.
NOW HONEYMOON! Have you figured out the secret sweet guest yet? Well you’ll just have to wait…
It should be a crazy party tonight. We have the Minnesota Luxury and Fashion magazine out taking photos, we have another crew doing a VIDEO of the party, and we also have some crazy visuals that will be happening the whole night courtesy of Max McDougal.
Remember prizes for best dressed Pool Partier as well as dance off with trophies! Bring your pool gear and get sloppy… this Honeymoon is going to be WET N WILD. LOL LOLOLOLOL. See you out there.
Damn it feels good to be back in Minneapolis. The past two weeks have been crazy for us. We played a few parties down at SXSW including one with Moby, Ocelot, Ian O, and Preston Craig. Then we also played a party with Bird and Jose at The whiskey bar which was by far a highlight of the Austin trip. To be honest I wasn’t impressed with SXSW. I mean yeah there were parties everyday but there were sooooo many parties spread out none of them seemed CrAzY. I saw almost everyone I wanted to see.
Anyway after SXSW we took a road trip to Oklahoma to play two parties with Dance Robots Dance. The first party we played I got a little too drunk and fucked up pretty hard. I just remember trying to look at my computer screen and focus. Chitty’s girlfriend was buying me shots of tequila… so blame her. Right? That’s the kewl thing to do. Blame others!!! I just remember everything was blurry and I was trainwrecking really hard. People were still dancing though… that’s all that matters…?
(kids caught making out & fall out boy t-shirt)
The next night we played an ALL AGES party at this club called Opolis. This was a blast. It reminded me of Minneapolis because it was a dirty venue and it was really house party style. Setup on a table… people all around you and people there to get drunk and dance. I played a way better set than the night before and for kewl points I played WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS LOL. Now really that song was big last summer but allllll the kids danced like it was the hit of right now. It was also funny because you’d have 16 year olds dancing to it and 25 year olds dancing to it. Who wulllddda thunk it? THANKS JUSTICE AND SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO!!! Last years music big in 08?
So after that party we had to leave straight from the club so we could make it to the in-store at Robot Love and Honeymoon. Talk about a fucking trip…
Robot Love was fun. We were all super tired from the long drive but Dance Robots Dance played a fun set and how can you complain with free drinks!? Also sidenote: The new moongoons t-shirt is available for sale there now! Pick it up!
(Honeymoon VIII – White Trash – Dance Robots Dance, Trash Yourself, The Moon Goons)
Later that night was Honeymoon VIII with Dance Robots Dance, Trash Yourself, and Us. The night started out slow… I imagine so all the under 21′s could get CRUNKZXZ~##@ as FUXXXX but it filled up fast. There were some fucking ACE outfits too…
(Love this guy!!)
Finally people showed up… Dance Robots Dance started playing and before I knew it this was a fucking serious party. The most people we’ve had yet! I’ve got papers to prove it!!! Everyone was white trashed and trashed off alchohol. I remember one point in the night I was handing my bottle of bombay to the crowd and I was standing on top of the speakers. It was soooo insane. Trash Yourself started his set and that’s when things got real wild. People were bumping the needle on the record and spilling their drinks on the dj. I was so happy. We played our set and I played WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS again lmao. I couldn’t believe I played it but people were singing along and pumping their fists. I remember at one point in the night when I had my cloak on people were grabbing me. Somehow we managed to lose one of our records for our Scratch and so we were playing off of one record the whole time… fucking nuts. We ended the set with some banger tracks available for snaggin’ at the bottom of this post.
Seriously thanks to everyone who came out! Party photos available above where it says… umm… party photos!
(ME and B from Dance Robots Dance)
After Honeymoon we hit up Chicago with DRD and Trash Yourself. Bald Eagle asked us to play Life During Wartime. It was cool. Nothing could compare to Honeymoon from the night before really. The crowd was way tough. We had some good requests though. Can you play “Daft Punk, Miami Bass, and any 2-Live Crew?” Fuck yeah we can! After LDW we all went over to the Smart Bar were Bald Eagle works. Pretty kewl club. At about 5AM we all said our goodbyes and went home. Bald Eagle will be coming to play the 10th edition of Honeymoon. So watch out!
NOW SOME CHUNES!!!
Here are some tracks that basically highlight the past two weeks. Most all of them are old but they are damn good. BONUS. MOONGOONS MIXABLE EDIT OF DEY KNOW!!
Man look at this flier! It screams burning inferno of cool. That’s right! We are playing this party. It happens this Saturday on the 50th floor of the IDS. So if you’re looking for a little change of pace you should probably come and check out some “fashion” as well as get drunk and then talk about how much you love “fashion” in your own “fashions”
We leave for SXSW after this weekend. Come party with us if you’re in Austin. Check out the events page for more information.
Inspired by a thrift store find from the early 80′s, Anthem Heart and Captain Safety teamed up to to show some love to Minneapolis retro.
The last of these super limited t-shirts are available in various colors and styles at two Uptown locations. Guys sizes are at Robot Love. Ladies sizes are at Cliche. To celebrate, here’s Minneapolis’ own Morris Day and the Time from 1984:
Realtalk. So with this being the first actual legitimate post…not just a test. I wanted to run over just a little bit about who we are and what we do. The Moon Goons are a collective based out of Minneapolis Minnesota. We work with a variety of musicians, designers, clothing companies, and so on to throw parties, do shows, and document it all. The Moon Goons also happens to be a quartet of dj’s and producers. You can see the Moon Goons live every third Friday of the month at First ave. For more info check the events page above. Anyway, without getting too deep into it we are just here to share what we are passionate about and have a fucking good time.
Greetings human souls and thanks for visiting The Moon Goons Blog. Little behind the times with this blog but at least we are expanding in our quest to put some pulse into the Midwest.
