Maino- “Hi Hater”

Nine Inch Nails – “The Hand That Feeds” (DFA Remix)

The Maino song is better, weirdly enough.

DO IT TO IT

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Please allow me to introduce myself my name is Mike. MIKE. 2 to the 6-0. I used to move snowflakes off my window. I live here in Minneapolis and DJ and am homies with the young Moon Goon bols and do graphic design and help run Burlesque of North America. You can check out some of my music and free mixes at myspace.com/mikethe2600king if you feel inclined.

We’ve teamed up with Moon Goons, Peter Soviet Panda, and our dudes Jimmy 2 Times and Plain Ole Bill (from the incredible monthly VIP Room dance night GET CRYPHY (A.K.A. GET FAMILIAR)) to bring you a larger-than-life dance night that will destroy your face.

We proudly present to you… DO IT TO IT

That’s Friday May 23rd at First Avenue in both the Main Room AND the V.I.P. room! One enormous night of dope music. This is a HUGE event for Minneapolis, as we’re finally bringing all of these fresh weekly / monthly parties together as ONE, bringing all of this music together for one night, and bringing all of these ridiculously dope DJs to town to entertain your ass off.

Stay tuned for free mixes from the DO IT TO IT disc jockeys, free pass giveaways and more!

In the meantime, you can do a couple of things…
1) Subscribe to the BRLSQOTHEQUE podcast for free mixes from DJ Guilty Pleasures, Winship, and myself with MANY more to come.
2) Check out the DO IT TO IT 12″ featuring red hot fire remixes from Dave Nada, Bird Peterson, Smalltown DJs, Cosmo Baker, and myself.

TRANCE RAP UPDATE

IDOLATOR
caught up to the trance rap bandwagon yesterday. The post is mostly pointless, but there are two nuggets of worthwhile blogging hidden in there amongst the fence-sitting – one, I am totally in agreement that “We Like To Party” needs to come back as a gangsta anthem. Two, they pointed me in the direction of Princess of Crime Mob’s “Pretty Rave Girl”, which you can hear by clicking the youtube right above these words. Shit is soooooo good.

The next Crime Mob single is going to be what really fucks with people though. It’s like they’re not exactly known for subtlety, so when someone told them that sampling 90′s dance songs was starting to be hot, they went right to the top of the food chain. I’m not sure the world is ready for this, you know?

TRANCE RAP UPDATE

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

The video for “Say Yeah” by Wiz Khalifa is on the front page of MySpace.com. Trance Rap is blowing up in 2008. I don’t know what’s more awesome – the Alice Deejay sample, or the video itself, which defies every expectation I had when I first started warning you about this track two months ago.

Corporate Bloggin’ posted the new Ursha single. At this rate, the world will be remade into a full-scale replica of the Jennifer Lopez “Waiting For Tonight” video within the next five years. TRANCE RAP IN ’08. Watch yourself.

Usher – In This Club (Ft. Young Jeezy)

UPDATE: LOLZ. This track, which is supposed to be the big new hit blockbuster single from the next Usher album, is built around an untreated Apple GarageBand loop. Hella Steve Jobs co-production credits, right? Here’s a track from 2006 by some message board dude that uses the same loop:

The Hot Shit Right Now – February 1st Edition

Hi everybody,

I’m James and this the hot shit:

I. ESTELLE

estelle.jpg

I’m not gonna pretend like I know anything about this shit, seriously. It’s some British chick. I’m super skeptical of British chicks ever since that country decided to try and stuff a new Lily Allen (I SEE YOU, KATE NASH, I SEE YOU, GEORGE PRINGLE) down our throats every couple of months, but Kanye signed off on this one and I have a W.W.K.D. bracelet that I look at every time I go clothes shopping. Seriously though this shit is really, really good. In two months ask me if this is “Umbrella” good, because I gots a crazy feeling it might be.

Estelle – Wait A Minute (Just A Touch)

II. THE-DREAM

dream.jpg

I know I might have told you that the full Dream album isn’t very good, and I know that I was a bit of a sad panda party pooper the first time I heard “I Love Your Girl”, which had the unenviable task of being the follow-up single to “Shawty is the Shit”, which was like, the best song ever. I was so wrong. This shit has more hooks than a Sci-Fi Channel marathon of the I Know What You Did Last Summer movies. LOLZ.

The-Dream – Fast Car

III. “VIBE MUSIC”

gorillatek.jpg

This is the new shit in Florida right now. Cool & Dre (see: Freeway – Lights Get Low) and The Runners (see: Rick Ross – Speedin’) have been on this fuzzy, trancey synth tip for about a year now, but some other lesser known dudes have been coming out with some shit that really nails the aesthetic. Shawty Redd is getting all kinds of bewildered blog love for that Snoop Dogg track your girlfriend really likes and “Drifter”, but this is the real shit right here, man.

Ballgreezy – Shone
T-Pain ft. Akon & Ballgreezy – Bartender (Gorilla Tek Remix)

You can find an extended discussion of the genre and it’s origins over at THIS THREAD on Hollertronix, along with links to a couple of other tracks. Cop the Grind Mode remix with Rick Ross if you can find it. These two Ballgreezy songs are the clear standouts, though. Instant classics. I’m waiting with bated breath for more shit to come out of this scene.

IV. HOSPITALITY

Don’t make fun of me but I really like this singer-songwritery shit that Pitchfork blurbed on their singles blog awhile ago. Their MySpace has like five songs on it and they’re all really really good. I’m serious. They are.
